Description¶
A Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction framework defining information and technology literacy content standards, grade-banded performance standards, and proficiency indicators for local curriculum guidance.
Components¶
- Wisconsin's Model Academic Standards for Information and Technology Literacy (Bulletin No. 9002, 1998): A state standards publication issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction in 1998. It states that "Academic standards specify what students should know and be able to do, what they might be asked to do to give evidence of standards, and how well they must perform." Each of its four content standards is followed by performance standards by the end of grade 4, grade 8, and grade 12, and each performance standard includes indicators detailing how students demonstrate proficiency. The document was drafted by a task force of educators, parents, and business people with public engagement through forums, focus groups, and discussion drafts. (Wisconsin State Dept. of Public Instruction (1998))
- Unified conceptual framework for information and technology literacy progressing from physical access to responsible group participation: The document defines Information and Technology Literacy as "the ability of an individual, working independently or with others, to use tools, resources, processes, and systems responsibly to access and evaluate information in any medium." It unifies information literacy, media literacy, and technology literacy perspectives, stating: "This framework demonstrates a progression from the physical access skills for the use of media and technology, to the intellectual access skills of information use, to skills and attitudes for learning independently, and finally to the skills needed for working responsibly and productively within groups." The four content standards instantiate this progression. (Wisconsin State Dept. of Public Instruction (1998))
