Description¶
The review codes the feedback practices in 24 K–5 oral-reading studies into a taxonomy of feedback content. It reports: "We identified 11 components of feedback content in the various feedback practices reviewed. These components fall into four main types of feedback: performance feedback, supporting elements, explicit corrective feedback, and implicit feedback encouraging independent thinking about their reading". The components range from reading-rate and error information through goals and rewards to word-reading, comprehension, and prosody instruction and questions as feedback.

Claims¶
- Effects of performance feedback during oral reading are mixed across studies, precluding clear conclusions [+M]
- Goal setting combined with performance feedback showed a positive effect on reading fluency [+M]
- Meaning-based and prosody-focused corrective feedback benefited comprehension and multiple reading outcomes, while decoding-focused feedback mainly enhanced fluency [+M]
