Description

The study adapted a coding scheme from Lin et al. (2015) classifying teacher talk into "seven research-informed teachers' instructional moves: high level prompting, low level prompting, modeling, specific praise, nonspecific praise, management, information provision," each with subcategories. High-level prompting asks for logical reasoning and perspective taking (e.g., reasons/evidence); low-level prompting asks for clarification, definitions, or repetition; modeling demonstrates good reasoning; specific praise reinforces particular cognitive or social strategy use; management regulates cognitive, participatory, and behavioral issues; information provision supplies facts or clarifications. Inter-coder reliability was Cohen's K = 0.72–0.74.
