Description

A laboratory research method in which participants watch a video-recorded group discussion performed by actors, so that all participants share the same prior knowledge and are exposed to the same group process. "The effects of explanation on learning could be studied by stopping the video at various points in time and instructing the participants to respond to the discussion during these 'gaps'." An edited version with the main explainer's contributions removed was used for the explanation condition and the integral version for the listening condition, allowing explaining to be compared with listening while controlling for random group dynamics.
