Description¶
The review proposes a six-dimensional framework for authentic assessment (AA) characteristics consisting of authenticity in assessment, cognitive challenges, assessment criteria, feedback, student agency and social collaboration. It extends prior frameworks (Gulikers et al. 2004; Ashford-Rowe et al. 2014; Villarroel et al. 2018) by distinguishing multiple meanings of authenticity — assessment, professional, digital, self and social authenticity — and by adding student agency and social collaboration as design elements. The review states it 'underscores the design of student agency, which enables students to integrate their knowledge, actions and identity across various practices'. The framework was used to code the 37 included studies.
