Description¶
The article organizes the question of whether affective-motivational experiences remain stable or fluctuate using three complementary dynamic measures. It investigates "the extent to which affective-motivational experiences remained stable or fluctuated from one situation to the next, using carryover (autoregressive effects), instability (rMSSD), and variability (within-person SD) as dyamic measures". Carryover captures how strongly a state persists to the next occasion, rMSSD captures moment-to-moment instability, and within-person SD captures overall variability. The framework is applied to medical students' motivation and emotions during exam preparation and analyzed with DSEM in Mplus.

Claims¶
- Negative emotions, particularly anxiety and boredom, show greater day-to-day stability than positive emotions and anger during exam preparation [+M]
- Affective-motivational stability is higher before learning than after learning [+M]
