Description¶
The review develops a typology classifying eWIL experiences along two dimensions: the function of the technology (supporting administrative WIL processes vs. delivering the WIL experience pedagogically) and the degree of technological involvement (low vs. high). Iterative open and pattern coding of 22 studies produced "four broad codes: "Technology-Supported", "Technology-Facilitated", "Technology-Blended" and "Technology-Based"", validated by independent recoding with no inconsistencies between researchers. The typology extends Kaider et al. (2009) by recognizing that technology can deliver, not just support, WIL.
Accounts¶
- Two-dimensional typology of eWIL: function of technology (support vs. deliver) by degree of technological involvement (low vs. high): The review develops a typology classifying eWIL experiences along two dimensions: the function of the technology (supporting administrative WIL processes vs. delivering the WIL experience pedagogically) and the degree of technological involvement (low vs. (Schuster et al. (2017))
Claims¶
- Only 3 of 22 reviewed studies examine technology-blended delivery of WIL, and 4 examine fully technology-based WIL [+W]
- Most eWIL research (15 of 22 reviewed studies) examines technology used backstage to support WIL processes rather than to deliver WIL [+W]
