Description¶
The article adapts the Li et al. (2007) coding scheme to distinguish two types of emergent leadership in collaborative groups. Intellectual leadership comprises Topic Control and Idea Management and Development, moves that address "the intellectual aspects of the activity, such as idea management and development." Organizational leadership comprises Planning and Organizing, Turn Management and Acknowledgment, moves that support "the group's interaction process, helping monitor and influence turn taking and participation." Leadership is defined as emerging only when leadership bids are accepted by the group; ignored bids are failed bids, and the bid-maker cannot be defined as a leader.
