Description

The article argues that true awareness of judgment accuracy requires analyzing whether an individual student's increase in judgment accuracy is accompanied by an increase in confidence, which demands multiple measurements per student. Between-student analyses answer a different question — whether students with higher accuracy are generally more confident — and "could have concluded that students showed awareness of their monitoring and regulation accuracy on the division task" even though within-student analyses showed no awareness. Researchers studying accuracy awareness should regress SOJs on judgment accuracy at the day (within-student) level with group-mean centering.

Accounts

  • Analyze accuracy awareness at the within-student level using multiple measurement points: The article argues that true awareness of judgment accuracy requires analyzing whether an individual student's increase in judgment accuracy is accompanied by an increase in confidence, which demands multiple measurements per student.
