Subclaims¶
Reading the evidence codes
q is the design tier, i the impact, n the sample, and the kind with its r
the rigour judged within that kind: what each code means.
This claim: no standardized effect is recorded in observations/ for it yet, so no benchmark reading is possible.
q3 i2 Among high-school students in a real sociocognitive conflict, performance goals significantly predicted reported self-competence (η² = .13), interpreted as relational conflict regulation. → Darnon 2006
Evidence¶
Darnon 2006¶
Darnon, C., Muller, D., Schrager, S. M., Pannuzzo, N., & Butera, F. (2006). Mastery and Performance Goals Predict Epistemic and Relational Conflict Regulation. Journal of Educational Psychology, 98(4), 766–776. https://doi.org/10.1037/0022-0663.98.4.766

Study 2 regression showed "performance goals significantly predicted the reported amount of self-competence" (B = 0.22, η² = .13); mastery goals (B = 0.01) and the interaction (B = −0.03) were non-significant.
"As expected, per- formance goals significantly predicted the reported amount of self-competence ( B /H110050.22), t(57) /H110052.87, p /H11021.003 ( /H92572 /H11005.13). The more participants endorsed performance goals, the more they reported being competent."
Discussion¶
Learner Variables¶
- Achievement Goal Orientation — predictor: learners who differ on it differ in outcomes
Related Claims¶
- After a sociocognitive conflict, mastery goals predict interest in task information while performance goals predict interest in the grade — related
- Mastery goals predict recognition of a disagreeing partner's competence after a real sociocognitive conflict — related
- Mastery goals positively predict self-reported epistemic conflict regulation in an imagined sociocognitive conflict — related
- Performance goals positively predict self-reported relational conflict regulation in an imagined sociocognitive conflict — related
- Performance goals regulate conflict with more-competent others toward competitive (approach) or protective (avoidance) interpersonal behavior — a broader claim this one bears on
- Performance-avoidance goals predict protective conflict regulation with a more-competent disagreeing partner, but not an equally competent one (Study 1) — related
- Performance-approach goals predict competitive conflict regulation with a more-competent disagreeing partner, but not an equally competent one (Study 1) — related
