CRITICS three-component ecosystem for cross-lingual scientific knowledge transfer

Design · All designs

Description

The CRITICS approach integrates machine translation and educational technology as a three-component system: an LLM-based scientific document translation system, a Teaching and Learning Sequence (TLS) generator, and an LLM-based automatic assessor. The components are placed in "a continuous improvement loop where assessments feed back into translation quality, teaching resource development, and assessment criteria refinement". The system aims to translate scientific content and transform it into educationally meaningful resources with built-in assessment capabilities.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • LLMs adapted to the translation, argumentation and assessment tasks
  • machine-translated scientific knowledge as input for generating education materials in students' native languages

Constraints

  • The project will comply with TRL 5, technology validated in relevant environments, with qualitative evaluation by domain experts
  • focuses on natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics) and Artificial Intelligence

Target Learners

  • science students in higher education reading in Basque, Lithuanian, French or German

Learning Goals

  • scientific literacy
  • evidence-based argumentation
  • critical thinking in science

Claims

Examples
