Description¶
A student-centered Mathematics teaching material developed on Kolb's four-stage experiential cycle, evaluated in this study against conventional material consisting only of content and questions. The conventional material the schools used was "still abstract, not accompanied by the visualization of the material". The experiential material instead starts from concrete experience with picture illustrations that "can clarify the material content, increase the attractiveness, and reduce the students' boredom", then moves through reflection, conceptualization, and application. It was tested with a 30-question multiple-choice instrument (reliability 0.730 via ITEMAN).
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A test instrument with validity above 0.2787 and reliability of 0.730 was used to measure cognitive ability before and after use
Constraints¶
- Evaluated only on fifth-grade volume of cube and beam content in Gunungpati Sub-district elementary schools
Target Learners¶
- Fifth-grade elementary school students
Learning Goals¶
- Mathematics cognitive ability
Claims¶
- Experiential Material Improves Math Cognitive Ability [+M]
- Posttest Mean Experimental 75 71 Control 63 72 [+M]
