Description

A culturally responsive parent intervention developed with the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE), a community-based organization with over 30 years of experience with the local Spanish-speaking community. "The parent intervention workshops consisted of five virtual (Zoom) seminars, each meeting for 90 minutes once a week over five consecutive weeks", held after work hours (6:00-7:30 pm). Sessions covered the value of STEM education, STEM and Latinx identity, university resources, and STEM career pathways, and included Latinx STEM alumni role models and a graduation ceremony. Grounded in Yosso's Community Cultural Wealth, the design emphasized familial, aspirational, linguistic, and social capital.
