Description

The ILSC model (also called SSIPs) is an interactive learning model with cooperative settings that emphasizes students constructing knowledge through problem solving in groups. It rests on four principles: "cooperation; freedom of expression; responsibility to yourself and groups; and equality". The model follows five syntax phases: introduction, activity or problem solving, presentation and discussion, closing, and assessment (before and after learning). It is designed to maximize interaction between teachers, students, and material.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Teachers must facilitate student interaction with students so that teaching and learning activities can take place properly
  • Assessment is done before and after learning

Constraints

  • The model requires active students and was studied in the context of Aliyah Madrasas (Islamic senior secondary) mathematics classes

Target Learners

  • Grade X (senior secondary) students in Aliyah Madrasas

Learning Goals

  • Mathematical critical thinking ability across five aspects: trigger event, exploration, drawing conclusions, clarification, and resolution
