Description

A two-year intervention in which a steering committee of 20 community partners — including faculty, parents, students, nonprofits, university representatives, city officials, law enforcement, and businesses — developed activities such as mentoring programs, afterschool clubs, and community events. Its stated goals were to "decrease school absenteeism", increase academic performance, and generate positive relationships that increase students' engagement and excitement about their school and community. Programs included school branding, pep rallies, mural painting, attendance contests, open house/field days, cooking and soccer clubs, and a career readiness program.
