Description

The paper proposes an organizational framework in which a stable student-elected administrative board governs a dynamic portfolio of student-led projects, with faculty acting as mentors. Its central premise is that "students should occupy a leading role in both the conception and execution of projects, while faculty members act primarily as mentors and facilitators." Every project is expected to simultaneously promote student learning, generate knowledge, and produce extension outcomes, so the three university pillars are integrated continuously rather than treated as separate activities.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • A stable administrative structure (elected board with President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Communication Coordinator) to ensure continuity across student generations
  • Faculty advisors providing institutional and academic guidance

Constraints

  • Eligibility for board positions is limited to students expected to remain enrolled for at least one additional year, to allow completion of the one-year term

Target Learners

  • undergraduate engineering and computing students
  • graduate students

Learning Goals

  • technical competencies in artificial intelligence
  • transversal competencies such as leadership, teamwork, and communication

Claims

Examples

  • Forca Libras: an extension output of the league: a computer-vision hangman game for Libras and Portuguese literacy
