Description

A training program used with Saudi primary-school learners with learning disabilities to develop visual perception through multiple senses. "The program included three major parts: the first one focused on paper flyer, the second one focused on the articles from day-to-day life and the third one focused on articles identification. Each part was further distributed into two sessions (each one was of 40 mins)." Learners inferred factual information from texts, identified everyday articles using multiple senses, and described shape, size, color and materials of visual stimuli, with rest periods maintained so the program was not too tiring.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Researchers were required to make use of the materials and be available with the learners during practice sessions and to exchange dialogue with the learners, with stability and flexibility maintained so amendments could be made

Constraints

  • The study applied the program with primary-school learners with learning disabilities in Saudi Arabia in 2017/2018

Target Learners

  • primary school learners with learning disabilities (third and fourth graders)

Learning Goals

  • visual perception skills, including recognizing visually stimulating texts and connecting sensorimotor experience to reading materials
