Description

PBLCS combines problem-based learning with cooperative learning as a student-centered model in which "the teacher gives the problem to the students" and "teachers guide students to solve the problem, either as individual or as a team". It is grounded by the authors in constructivism (Piaget, Vygotsky, including ZPD), Dewey's democratic class theory, and humanistic theory. The article applies it with a dedicated PBLCS module to mathematics teaching on differential functions, expecting gains in motivation, independence, self-confidence and social relationships.
