Description¶
Progress tracking is the element in which learners or instructors monitor advancement through goals, tasks, competencies, or milestones over time. It is useful when visibility into progress supports planning, motivation, and coordination.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Clear milestones or indicators of progress
- A visible record or dashboard of status
Constraints¶
- Tracking without meaningful next steps can become administrative overhead
Target Learning Goals¶
- Improve monitoring, accountability, and awareness of next steps.
Affordances¶
Claims¶
- Dashboard-monitoring is a newly observed orchestration type in which the teacher uses real-time AI dashboards to grasp student status and adjust lesson direction and pace (14 of 46 episodes) [~W]
- Progress monitoring is needed to guide next steps in planning and providing instruction and interventions [+W]
- Mirroring dashboards improved teacher situational awareness while alerting-and-guiding dashboards reduced teacher workload and frustration [~W]
- Teacher-facing dashboards that mirror or guide increase teacher awareness and targeted interventions during classroom orchestration [~W]
- Mirroring-condition teachers consulted the dashboard more often than guiding-condition teachers (137 vs 95 consultations) but missed aspects needing reaction [~W]
- Mirroring-condition teachers relied more on indicator views while alerting and advising teachers opened more group overviews [~W]
- Reported cognitive load was lowest in the mirroring condition (5.4), compared with no dashboard (5.6) and guiding (6.2) [~W]
- Face-to-face components are used mainly for orientation while monitoring of learning progress is carried out online [+W]
