Description¶
Metafora is a computer-supported collaborative-learning system developed by Schwarz and colleagues that combines shared construction tools with an argumentation space for group inquiry, reflection, planning, and peer assessment.
Components¶
- Metafora dual-interaction space: construction space plus argumentation space supporting learning-to-learn-together: The article describes the Metafora system, designed via design-based research by Schwarz and colleagues to support learning-to-learn-together. It pairs "a construction space and an argumentation space": the construction space offers domain-specific modeling applications forming a mutually visible "joint problem space" for collective reflection, while as one member acts, others assess the action in the argumentation space, "either affirming it or questioning it." A sophisticated planning/reflection tool prompts planning steps (collective agency) and team reflection (collective responsibility), going beyond simple chat-plus-construction dual-interaction systems.
