Description¶
OU Analyse is the Open University UK's predictive learning-analytics system and teacher dashboard for identifying students at risk of non-submission or non-completion and supporting targeted interventions.
Components¶
- OU Analyse (OUA) predictive learning analytics system and dashboard: OUA is a PLA system built at the Open University UK that "uses a range of advanced statistical and machine learning approaches to predict students at-risk so that cost-effective interventions can be made." It combines four predictive models (Naïve Bayes, CART, k-NN with demographic data, k-NN with VLE data) via voting to predict whether students will submit their next teacher-marked assessment and complete the course. Teachers access predictions through a dashboard showing cohort comparisons, per-student predictions, and nearest-neighbour views; contact with students happens outside the dashboard. (Herodotou et al. (2019))
Claims¶
- Teachers' weekly OUA dashboard usage is associated with higher odds of students completing their course [+M]
- Teachers' weekly OUA dashboard usage is associated with higher odds of students passing their course [+M]
