Description¶
The article assigns each OD3R stage a domain profile: orientation generates motivation (affective); decision trains designing group investigations (cognitive and affective); do requires observation, manipulative, drawing, data interpretation, and teaming skills spanning all three domains; discuss develops written reports and presentations across all domains; and review relates to scientific attitudes (affective). Figure 5 presents this mapping as the route to "Meaningful learning in Biochemistry Course".
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Each stage must include its paired activities, e.g. lecturer explanation and group discussion in orientation, individual report writing and lecturer feedback in discuss
Constraints¶
- The mapping is the authors' interpretive account of how the stages relate to domains, grounded in Bretz et al.'s criterion that meaningful learning integrates cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects
Target Learners¶
- undergraduate chemistry and chemistry education students
Learning Goals¶
- meaningful learning integrating knowledge, skills, and attitudes
Claims¶
- All categories of students' scientific attitudes improve after implementation of the OD3R method, with responsibility showing the highest score [+W]
- The OD3R method significantly increases students' practical skills in biochemistry, from an average of 49.5 before to 74 after implementation [+W]
