Description¶
A multidisciplinary pedagogical model combining a simulation learning framework, IVR scenarios, and elements of the Cognitive Affective Model for Immersive Learning, framed socioculturally. It proposes "four essential training phases: introduction, IVR briefing, IVR scenario, and debriefing", with facilitated discussions before and after the individually performed IVR scenario enacting social learning. Based on the trainer interviews, the authors "include the trainers' pre- and post-activities in the pedagogical model to encourage the practitioners to strive for a good fit between the training goals, the learners' work tasks, and the organizational safety culture." The model considers learners' sense of agency, presence, body ownership, embodiment, and cognitive load.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Trainers must be provided with sufficient training and facilitation materials beforehand; some may need coaching and support to create positive learner–facilitator interaction
Constraints¶
- The IVR environment used in the interventions only accommodates individual learning; the model has not yet been empirically tested in this study
Target Learners¶
- employees receiving occupational safety training
- vocational and higher education learners in practice-based learning
Learning Goals¶
- safety knowledge
- safety attitudes and motivation
- self-efficacy
- procedural and psychomotor skills
Claims¶
- Trainers Match Pedagogy To Safety Training Goals [+M]
- Trainers Guide Social Interaction In Safety Training [+M]
- Trainers Utilize Organizational Resources For Training Development [+M]
- Sociocultural Context Supports Ivr Safety Training Model [+M]
